AFOABC

Who We Are

BC Chapter History

AFOA BC was founded in 1996 in response to the need for a united voice for those working in the critical fields of Indigenous finance and administration in this province. The response to AFOA BC was immediate, and it was clear early on that such an organization was needed on a national level.

With our help, AFOA Canada was established in 1999, and there are now AFOA chapters in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Canada and NWT. Efforts are being made to establish chapters in Nunavut.

Being part of a larger, national body allows AFOA BC to participate in issues at a national level, and gives our own members access to additional resources and information, as well as a wider network of their peers.

Today, AFOA BC has more than 300 members, and we continue to grow in our membership services and offerings.

Healthy, prosperous Indigenous communities rely on effective leadership, solid economic foundations and a strong sense of community pride. This is the premise upon which the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of BC (AFOA BC) was founded in 1996.
