Indigenous Financial Management Certificate Cohort
Program Overview
The Indigenous Financial Management Certificate (IFMC) is an 18-month, cohort-based education program that supports Indigenous professionals in developing practical financial management skills within an Indigenous context. The program combines in-person Indigenous-specific courses delivered by AFOA BC with online post-secondary accounting courses through Langara College. Participants progress through the program together, building peer connections while gaining knowledge in accounting, Indigenous law, strategy, ethics, and communications. The IFMC is the first step toward the Certified Aboriginal Financial Management (CAFM) designation and prepares graduates to support strong financial governance and capacity development in their organizations and communities.
What is the cost of the program?
The full cost of the 18-month program is approximately $20,000 per student. This covers all course fees, textbooks, student fees and travel to Vancouver for the in-person courses. Due to the generous contributions by our sponsors, the cost to you is $5,000.
Who Should Apply?
This program is ideal for individuals working in First Nations administrations or Indigenous-led organizations who want to strengthen their understanding of finance, accounting, and governance. Priority is given to applicants currently employed in community administration, finance, or management roles; however, you do not need to work directly in a finance position to benefit from this program. The Indigenous Financial Management Certificate is well suited for those seeking foundational financial knowledge to support informed decision-making, contribute to organizational sustainability, and build long-term capacity within their communities.
